A bold, fun and well designed new series for new readers, Bad Nana: Older not Wiser follows the adventures Jeanie, 7 ¾, her little brother Jack and their rather unusual grandmother, nicknamed Bad Nana (though she isn’t really bad, just a little naughty at times!). With a great cast of characters (including a great description of her extended family) and some hilarious adventures grounded in everyday life that readers can recognise, this is a lovely addition to the highly illustrated fiction genre, which is a crucial step for developing readers as their learn to cope with longer texts. What is particularly clever here is that the book is split into 3 stories, each getting increasingly more text heavy, although with still a lot of artwork, allowing young readers to build their stamina as they progress through the book.
